    Synchronizing with Multiple Files

Top  Previous  Next

The process of synchronizing your Palm and PC time records is a sophisticated task in which the computer must decide what to do with new, deleted, and modified records.  The process cannot work smoothly if you change time record databases in between HotSyncs.  For example, imagine that after synchronizing January.mdb with the Palm, you make some changes in the Palm time records, and then synchronize with the file February.mdb.  Time Logger will not be able to figure out what to do with the changed records, and will add an error message to the HotSync log.

Here's what you should do:

First, you should avoid unnecessary switching between different time record databases.  Time Logger is optimized for keeping all of your records in a single database.

However, if you do need to work with multiple databases, then use this procedure when switching from one to the other:

1.Perform a HotSync so that all the Handheld data is transferred to the PC
2.Set your HotSync Actions to Desktop overwrites Handheld
3.Open the new database on the PC
4.Perform a HotSync to transfer the new database's records to the Handheld

Alternatively, you may wish to have a single time record database on the PC side for synchronizing with the Handheld.  In this case, choose HotSync Manager Icon/Custom/Time Logger/Change/Time Record Files, and choose a specific time record file (see Configuration Window -- Time Record Files Tab).
