If you upgrade to a new computer, or wish to copy Time Logger to your laptop AND, you are copying from a Windows Vista computer running Time Logger version 4.x, please use these directions.
IMPORTANT: These directions do NOT apply when copying from Windows 2000 or XP. Please use these directions instead.
NOTE: As long as the same person is using Time Logger, it can legally be installed on multiple computers, such as your Desktop and Laptop. See: Maintaining Multiple Copies of a Database for help managing Time Logger's data on multiple computers.
If Time Logger is NOT installed to a folder under C:\Program Files or C:\Windows: on the FROM computer:
NOTE: To determine where Time Logger is installed, find the Main Directory in the Advanced/Diagnostics window.
Your data will not be overwritten and you should not have to re-enter your Registration Code.
To re-install the Palm Interface, you must first select to have it installed during the setup process (when you run setuptimelogger.exe check the box on the "Select Components" screen) and then click:
START->Program Files->Responsive Time Logger->Install Time Logger to the Handheld
NOTE: If your Time Records database file is not in the folder where Time Logger is installed, you will need to copy that file also (see: Diagnostics Window to determine where your time records database file is located on your old computer). Additionally, when you first start Time Logger on your new computer, you might need to specify where your Time Records database file is located and open it.
TIP: To make two Time Records database files the same (synchronized), and effectively transfer Time Records between two time records database files (which could be on different computers that are connected somehow), use File->Synchronize Databases.
If Time Logger IS installed to a folder under C:\Program Files or C:\Windows: on the FROM computer
1. Copy the Timelog folder from: [????? = your Windows Vista user name]
C:\Users\?????\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Timelog
or here for Vista 64bit:
C:\Users\?????\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Timelog
to an external storage device (if necessary).
IMPORTANT: If you cannot see the C:\Users\?????\AppData folder, you need to change your Folder Options to show hidden files and folders. Follow these directions and then return here to continue.
2. On the new computer that is running Vista paste the Timelog folder into
C:\Users\?????\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files
or here for Vista 64bit:
C:\Users\?????\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)
Now you should have the path to the Timelog folder as:
C:\Users\?????\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Timelog
or here for Vista 64bit:
C:\Users\?????\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Timelog
on the new computer.
OR, on the new computer that is not running Vista, paste the Timelog folder to:
C:\Program Files
Now you should have the path C:\Program Files\Timelog folder on the new computer.
3. Then re-install Time Logger (using the setuptimelogger.exe file that you can download from our website) into the:
C:\Program Files\Timelog
folder location on the new computer (both for Vista and non-Vista).
IMPORTANT: If you have trouble getting your Time Logger Palm Interface to HotSync correctly, please see the Frequently Asked Questions on this topic.
TIP: To make two Time Records database files the same (synchronized), and effectively transfer Time Records between two time records database files (which could be on different computers that are connected somehow), use File->Synchronize Databases.
